My Love of Silk
I was emailed a link to this great article about Silk.  If anyone has checked out my website, Carmen Colletti, then you know I love to sew with silk.  Its luxurious and natural and I love the hand of it.

An excerpt:

...the next time you think of silk try and think
about where it comes from, the distances it travels and how did it
originate, from what part of the globe, how many hands did it pass on
the way to being the fabric of which your
    clothes are made and how
extraordinary it is that this old trade ...

The Deally, Yo!
Sorry that I haven't posted as much as I used to but I'm getting married (!!) and now my whole life is about planning the perfect wedding.  I'm having a great time but it requires practically all my focus.  I never thought I was a control freak before but I realize that I do like things done my way and that usually means I only trust myself to do it.  At least my man loves me and knows he has to live with it forever...

You can read my wedding planning blog at mydallaswedding.wordpress.com.  I promise I will keep up ...

Models on Magazines!
I am so loving that more fashion mags are featuring models lately.

W featuring Gisele on the cover of the July 2007  issue
Vogue featuring Natalia Vodianova on the July 2007 cover (see Fashionologie.com)

Doesn't seem like a lot but to me it's a significant statement.  Could it have something
to do with the blogging community expressing their opinions on this topic?

Me No Feel Good
I finally took myself to the Doctor and was diagnosed with a Respiratory Infection and Laryngitis. Fun. I'm trying to take it easy but I've been so stressed about the Bazaar and money and life in general! I'm reading Edith Hamilton's "Mythology", which is a sort of modern reference book for all those wonderful 2,000 year old tales we all know and love. It's helping me to relax and take my mind away from reality. I promise as soon as I feel better to actually post something relevant about Fashion Week and Dallas goings-on. ...

Servin' Up Some Haterade
I saw this dress in the October Lucky (page 112) and was so disappointed. Why was I disappointed? Because I wish I had designed it, that's why. I love it. It's so Nouveau Edwardian I could cry. It is by Lauren Moffatt, whose pieces I really enjoy./images/3586-3554/moffatt.bmp">The silk fabric I used for my Normandie Jacklette reminds me of this. I promise I will post some pics tonight. What a Day - Caution: Political Message Attached
I just returned from lunch and ever since, I've been teary eyed. On the radio, I listened to a tribute for 9/11 and was so moved. They played the great speeches of JFK ("Let every nation know, whether it wishes us well or ill, that we shall pay any price, bear any burden, meet any hardship, support any friend, oppose any foe, to assure the survival and the success of liberty.") and FDR ("This great Nation will endure as it has endured, will revive and will prosper. Fredrikkson, I am specifiacally obsessed with Gray Satin shoes (and Satin shoes in general). So, I have to show you pictures of some kick ass shoes I've found.I have these in Fushia already. They are one of favorite pairs of shoes even though they have the skinniest most hurtful heels ever. I think the beading distracts me form the Gray Satin. They are at Zappos for $82.95. Art and Inspiration
I just came across a fabulous web-site, American Art Archives, through a google search for 1915 fashion. I am totally obsessed with the Edwardian Era and Art Nouveau. I search for new sites almost everyday. Here is a vintage advertisement that I love. It speaks to me. It says, "This is your vision, Camille." Gorgeous. Just for Fun: According to Coach
Lions are known for their strength, nobility and potential ferocity. Although the women born under this sign aren’t necessarily predators, they do share many traits with the Lion. They tend to be dignified, impressive and focused on their goals. More than any other sign in the zodiac, Leo women possess a power and determination for achieving their goals. They literally attack life, letting nothing stand in the way of their hunt for fulfillment. Leos are fond of attention, although careful not to be ...

Snarky Bark No. 1
I have very long legs in relation to my torso. I'm not even that tall - only 5'7 1/2" (which equaled 5'8" when I was modeling!). So, before the onslaught of 34" and 36" inseam jeans and "Tall" pants, I had trouble finding pants/jeans that were long enough. I have always preferred long pants with the exception of capris (obviously), the eighties tightly rolled cuff look and when I was a little girl, I refused to wear pants to school until I saw that the other little girls actually wore them (weirdos). Now, I can't recall ...

I consider myself a Fashionista even if I don't own all the things I write about or covet. I love Fashion. Yet, I have never been to a Sample Sale before. Boogie Dreams

I have been searching for a black handbag for about six months. Seriously. I am a shoe girl so I can be pretty frivolous when buying shoes. Handbags are a more serious matter. I don't change handbags as much as I change shoes so I need a perfect bag - good quality that will last. Here are my inspirations:

The pics are from an ebay auction but I actually purchased my bag on Monday at Tuesday Morning. They really have great finds. Anyway, I spent about $12 less than the ebay listing ...

This is me with my Mom (she looks kinda cute!). My cousin (who now lives in Syracuse) just totally posted this on MySpace and he better be glad he lives far away!  Seriously, I think it is hilarious. I don't remember this picture but I do know that this is from the time in my life when I refused to wear pants. Now you can't get me in some tights or pantyhose. Speaking of...did you notice the ...

Carnivale of Couture - w/o April 17

 The Fashionable Kiffen asks:

What item/style/look do you wish would become a trend? Or what trend from the past would you like to resurrect?

Fountain of Fashion's answer:

The peplum.

I have loved the peplum since researching the 1900s and the 1940s for my History of Costume class. It gives such a feminine and classic silhouette. I love suits with a peplum, tops with a peplum, dresses with a peplum and even peplum styled belts. If done in a new and modern way, the peplum can be versatile enough and worn in different ...

I recently came across the coolest t-shirt (thanx to MySpace - it is good for something!). After perusing the site of which this cool t-shirt belonged, I decided I had to blog about it. Why?  First of all, I love Dallas. Secondly, the t-shirts are so damn cool.

What's the story behind these fresh and stylish tees?  Check out Thirty Thousand Dollar Millionaire to find out.

Dress Up
I am glad that dresses are so in vogue this season. I need to make a promise to myself to wear more dresses and skirts. I've been at my job for over 3 months and have yet to wear either. Our dress code calls for panty hose and I refuse to wear them. Hopefully, the summer will provide a more lax dress code and I can partake in this more feminine attire.

Saks Fifth Avenue has put together a nice collection of dresses. Peruse here:

Hair Care Heaven
I just found my new favorite hair product - Carol's Daughter Tui Hair Oil. The light oil is infused with with chamomile and marigold and smells so good - very lush and tropical. I've actually been caught smelling my hair twice today by co-workers!  Anyway, it makes your hair shine and really softens the texture. I just rubbed a few drops in my palms and smoothed on to my hair, especially the ends. I am so pleased with the results. It is not at all greasy or heavy. And no, you don't have to be black (or half-black, as it is) ...

Carnivale of Couture - w/o March 20
If you could exchange your life with that of any one particular fashion "celebrity" (Shoelover will use that term loosely), whose life would it be and why?

I'm late Shoe Lover. So sorry but better late than wait until someone else has a new Carnivale, right?  So who would I be...

I would be Andre Leon Tally - he must be absolutely fabulous to be big (as in not at all skinny) and work for Anna and he's been on Oprah to talk about it (I love Oprah). Besides, I've always said that if I was ...

Profile of a Fashion Designer?
I found this from Tribunal of Good Taste (one of my favorite blogs). I love taking personality tests (I thought it was because I am totally narcissistic) but this one is great b/c it doesn't even mention that!  Seriously, I thought it was fairly accurate. It did say I have low femininity which may work against me trying to be a successful clothing and apparel designer/entrepreneur. Oh Well...

Baby Fat Head
I have never been a fan of Kimora Lee Simmons, of the Baby Phat clothing line. There is just something about her that rubs me the wrong way. After today, I can be more specific about it. She is a total ego maniacal, megalomaniac (for Shayla - psychiatric disorder with delusions of power: a psychiatric disorder in which the patient experiences delusions of great power and importance [LOL!])!  Please read the following excerpt from an article I found and you'll see why I say that. My love of Premium Denim (PD) was influenced by #1) one of BFs, Mrs. Kelly Herrera and #2) working at Urban Outfitters. Often times, when my friends would get together we'd end up having debates about the cost of PD versus jeans. There is a difference, ya ...

HGTV is wonderful. My favorite show is Divine Design with Candice Olson. Her taste level is supreme. She's an angel. I want to design a dining room similar to one of her rooms. Reply to F.L.Y - The Best & Worst of last night’s Grammy Awards

Great Grammy round up.   I did NOT like Beyoncé either.   The hair, the dress, the pose.   She's so stiff.   It was so funny, when Destiny's Child (they were dressed and styled ALL WRONG!!) was presenting an award, Felton only heard Kelly Rowland speak and thought it was Beyoncé, so he said "sounds like Beyoncé has been taking speech lessons."  I had to tell him it was Kelly and that Beyoncé already spoke and she sounded as Ghetto ...

They were actually entertaining. I haven't sat down and watched the Grammys in like 3 or 4 years. So, when my boyfriend just had to watch it, I wasn't expecting much. And then there she was - Madonna, Madonna, Madonna. Her performance (along w/ the Gorillaz and De La Soul) rocked the house. She looks so damn good! I was so inspired by her body that I worked out last night. Seriously. For those of you who don't know - I LOVE Madonna. Always have. Always will. Match Set
Everyone has heard the overly used term "matchy matchy". And the trend now-a-days is to not be so "matchy matchy". However, if you are like me, you like to coordinate.

Now don't get me wrong, I don't always play it safe by matching my handbag with my shoes, and neither should you. Match your shoes to your top and/or your handbag to your pants or skirt. I'm not a big fan of matching your handbag to your top especially if you carry a shoulder bag. It creates a visual blob when you have the same color handbag sitting under your arm. And blob ...
